Thank you to everyone who has made donations to buy Christmas gifts for the children of SOFKIN. As we indicated in our last blog, we would like to surround our children – with your help – with the garland of sharing and caring that wraps the holiday season. Please help us give each child:

• A school set that includes a school bag, a new school uniform, and 2 pairs of shoes (regular and athletic)
• New clothes, including a rain jacket, a sweater, and warm socks, as Hyderabad enters the winter rainy season
• A new bed set that includes a bed sheet and thin comforter (made by women at Maher, our sister organization in Pune)
• A bag of chocolates and 1 small toy for the younger children, and a pen set for the older children.

So far, we have reached approximately 10% of our target of $3,000 and would like to raise the full amount before the holiday. We will appreciate anything you are able to contribute. Chaya Pamula is looking forward to personally delivering these presents on behalf of everyone who contributed, when she travels to India.

A wonderful example of a volunteer effort in support of SOFKIN is the Smiles R Us team. Made up of 10 families, the team has, for the past 3 years, set up a SOFKIN stall at the Indo-American Fair, held in Mercer County Park in Windsor, NJ, over Labor Day weekend. The team sells beverages and food items with a tag line ‘Drink for Charity & Eat for Charity’. This past September their dedicated efforts raised around $6,000, which they anticipate will grow to $12,000 with a corporate match. A big thank you to the entire Smiles R Us team for their continued commitment and support.
