SOFKIN-RHYTHM 2014

SOFKIN will hold its annual fundraising event RHYTHM 2014 on June 7th at Cross Roads South Middle School in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey. Dance groups from across NJ will be performing Bollywood, Bhangada, and fusion dances. The dance festival will be followed by a generous meal featuring Indian and fusion cuisine – all included in the ticket price of $10.00 per person

25-May-14

RHYTHM 2014 is organized on behalf of the over 90 orphaned and destitute children currently in SOFKIN’s care. Some are orphan children and some come from impoverished families. One of the children, who dropped out of school to provide for his mother and 2 younger siblings, was found by SOFKIN selling tea in street shacks and living with his family in a hut surrounded by poverty and drugs. Initially, he struggled at SOFKIN; he spoke no English and received failing grades. But with SOFKIN’s love and guidance, he gradually began a new life. He became a top ranker in school and in 2011, after 4 years at SOFKIN, received 84% in the statewide 10th grade examination. Today, he is enrolled in the most reputed engineering college studying computer science. A fluent English speaker, he is grateful to SOFKIN and its donors and sponsors for all he has received, but especially “the love which cannot be expressed in words”.

Your participation in RHYTHM 2014 will enable SOFKIN to provide food, medical attention, clothing, education, a safe home and above all, utmost love and care that nurtures dreams for a better life and future, for children like Kranti. Because of the generous support of the event’s sponsors, every dollar of the money raised will go directly to support the children at SOFKIN.

The event will begin promptly at 5 PM, with a brief welcome. Then the fun begins as local groups from dance schools such as Indianica Academy, Rita Dance Academy, Nritya Madhavi Dance School, Shishya Fine Arts, Hot Salsa Hot and others bring to life the vibrant traditional dances of India and western dances. Some dances will interweave grace and storytelling. And some will bring on the party, ballroom and salsa, and some Bollywood style. Chaya Pamula, SOFKIN founder and chair will give an update on the current and future activities of SOFKIN and a film on the SOFKIN children’s experiences and achievements will be shown. Pamula says, “All this wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our sponsors and donors who stood by us for the past 9 years”.
